Our European oak railway sleepers are unseasoned or ‘green’ (meaning they have been freshly cut in the last 6 months) and untreated. European oak railway sleepers are normally square edged on one face, with some rounded edges (scallops) on the opposite face, where the oak has been cut from the outside of the tree. The oak can also have splits at the ends, and may have knots & blemishes.
Oak is a naturally dense timber, these railway sleeper will not require treating with a preservative; however you can, if you wanted to, oil or stain to suit your individual requirements. Left untreated they will silver with age.
